Our HistoryCertificate of Organization received on July 24th, 1974.
Around December of 1972, there existed a youth group known as FORUM, under the auspices of Rev. Rene Gomez, the then president of the Rotary Club, who dedicated part of his service to the foundation of Rotaract. This youth group formed the foundation of the Rotaract Club of Orange. On July 24th, 1974, the Rotaract Club of Orange was granted its constitutional certificate, under the sponsorship of the Orange Walk Rotary Club. FORUM had long ceased to exist. At that time, the club met at the La Inmaculada Parish Presbytery. A couple of years after, the members decided on renting a small house on Cemetery Street to be used as its club headquarters. In February 1987, after approximately 10 years, it was impossible for the club to continue meeting there due to the elevated cost of rent. Therefore, there was no alternative but to hold its weekly meetings at different members' homes and offices. Hence, the idea of building their own clubhouse came to be. It took the then club many months of decision-making and planning, and with the excellent support and financial help received from various civic-minded persons in the community, in September of 1987, the Rotaractors stepped into their own clubhouse, situated on Main Street (besides Christopher Hotel, at the time Golden Dragon Restaurant). Then, in the early 90's with the help of the Orange Walk Rotary Club, the club obtained its own lot and transferred the clubhouse in September, 1995 to its present location on Palmar Road. The Rotaract Club of Orange Walk was to the first to exist in Belize, and even played an important role in the formation of the Belize City Club and the Corozal Club in 1979. Unfortunately, the Corozal Club no longer exists, but the Belize City Club is strong and vibrant. In 1982, ex-Rotaractor Alfredo Martinez was elected, as Representative in Panama, and it was an honor for this club to hold the District Representation. In 1987, the Rotaract Club of Orange Walk along with the Belize City Club organized the XIII District 424 Conference here in Orange Walk, the first and only time that such an event has been held in Belize. During these past 24 years, the Rotaract Club of Orange Walk has surely achieved a heapful of projects ranging from Finance to Community, Vocational to Club Service and International. To name a few, Rotaract has sponsored:
Rotaract in Orange Walk has indeed come a long way. Therefore, it is imperative that the club maintains and/or increases its interest in the affairs of our community. Rotaract needs conscientious, hardworking, interested and friendly young people in the club, young people who are willing to give of themselves for the benefit of the community.
